"100 Classic Hikes in Colorado - Second Edition" by Scott S. Warren Published by The Mountaineers Books
Distance: 5.9 miles Round Trip Hiking Time: 4 Hours (My Time: 3.5 hours) Elevation: 6,600 to 6,200 feet
Castlewood canyon is located in the plains region southeast of Denver. Etched by Cherry Creek, this canyon includes several ecological communities that blend together in a relatively small area. These include surprisingly tall stands of timber, verdant riparian areas, fragile prairie grasses, and more. Add to these natural features a poignant lesson in man's attempt to control nature an you have a special place indeed. September 20, 2003 I tried to work in another quick hike into my hectic schedule of late and was glad I did. This is a very nice easy hike with lot's of different kinds of views. Highly recommended for a day hike and picnic despite the republican fundraiser that was going on while I was there.
